While Roblox’s social features can create some anxiety for parents, the social aspect of Roblox can also provide an opportunity for parents to help kids develop good digital habits that will last a lifetime. Parents can turn off Roblox’s social features (see the sidebar “Roblox’s Social Features.” Roblox also has a parent’s guide at /parents). Players can comment and converse with other players inside a game and also chat with their friends on Roblox. In fact, Roblox could be your child’s first experience with digital socializing. Roblox games are social, multiplayer experiences. In a way, Roblox is similar to YouTube – it gives people the tools to create digital content and a place to share and enjoy content from others. It’s a platform that allows anyone to create their own online games by using its game design tool known as Roblox Studio. Launched in 2006, Roblox’s popularity among gamers 8-years-old and up has exploded, and it is now one of the top online entertainment platforms for kids and teens, according to comScore. Note: You can create a new experience at any time, but it cannot be enjoyed by other Roblox players until it is made public using the "Make Experience Public" process.If your kids love to play online games, one of the names you may be hearing about a lot lately is Roblox. To start building, click the Edit button to the right of your new experience's entry in your Experiences list. You can go ahead and make the experience public now, if you would like, or you can wait until you have done some work on it. This will take you back to the Create page you were at previously. Choose the settings and templates for your new creation.In the My Creations tab click Experiences if it isn't already highlighted.For more information, please see the help article about Group Experiences. Private will prevent anyone other than you from being able to view or play the experience, unless it's a group experience, in which case only you and appointed developers (with the necessary rank with experience edit permissions) will be able to play the experience.Public will allow any user to view and play the experience.Under Privacy, select either Public or Private.Regardless of which you select in the above step, on the screen that appears, navigate to the Basic Settings tab if it isn't already highlighted.Select Configure this Place or Configure this Experience.Click the three dots icon to pull up the experience's settings menu.Private (grey icon) will prevent anyone other than you from being able to view or play the experience, unless it's a group experience, in which case only you and appointed developers (with the necessary rank with experience edit permissions) will be able to play the experience.Public (green icon) will allow any user to view and play the experience.Find the place you would like to make public/private and click the grey or green icon underneath the place's title to switch between the two statuses.In the My Creations tab, click Experiences if it isn't already highlighted.Click Create in the blue bar at the top of the website.Note: Making your experience private will shut down any running experiences and cancel all server subscriptions. There are two methods of making an experience public or private. Luckily, we can help! All users are able to build as many experiences as they want, though accounts are limited to 200 public experiences (able to be played by others) at any given time. You may find that developing one experience just isn't enough to satisfy your craving for creativity.
